There has been a lot to say in the media lately about the President’s vacations. How much time he spends on vacations and where he goes seems to be the subject of much attention. Some are saying that with oil leaking into the Gulf still a problem among many other matters of immediate import, he should be deferring his vacations until the problem is solved. Some say that he is taking more vacation time than did his predecessor. Other say that’s not true, but in fact the reverse.

In an article titled at Townhall.com entitled “Our Big Mistake,” Call Thomas says: “The liberal wing of the Democratic Party is dismantling the America we have known and loved and transforming it into something it has never been: a socialist state. If we let them do it, there will be no forgiveness, no excuse, and no going back. And our shame will be an indelible stain for which future generations will judge us."(1)

This week marks the forty-first anniversary of one of America’s crowning achievements, the first manned landing on the moon. Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, riding on the shoulders of thousands of engineers, technicians, and manufacturers, touched down on the Sea of Tranquility at 4:53 pm on Sunday, July 20, 1969. During the next twenty-one hours, they walked on the surface of the moon, planted “Old Glory” there, and finally lifted off the next day for their return to earth.

There is no single duty that a President has as Commander-in-Chief that is more important than ensuring the nation’s engines of defense remain at a level that will deter and defend against any attack upon America or its allies.

In the past few weeks, America’s legal system has been subjected to an avalanche of outrages from the White House and Department of Justice. But while each individual event, if considered apart from the others, would be sufficient to warrant investigations of corruption and gross ethical lapses, when examined in its entirety the situation represents a methodical and premeditated effort to fundamentally reinvent the American concept of justice.
